Weekend in Riga

DAY 1: Arrival at Riga. Transfer from the airport to Riga city center. Dinner in restaurant with Latvian national cuisine. Night in 4* hotel in City center.

DAY 2: Riga sightseeing tour

On this day we will explore one of the most popular sightseeing place Art Nouveau district & Art Nouveau Museum.

Forty percent of buildings in the centre of Riga belong to art Nouveau, which is more than in other European cities. Moreover, art and architecture connoisseurs believe that it is in Riga that art nouveau found especially powerful and sweeping expression. In order to preserve Old Riga, Riga’s wooden buildings and the art nouveau architecture, the historical centre of Riga has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage List.

Also we will visit The Riga Art Nouveau Museum, opened on 23 April 2009. Here the authentic 1903 interior has been turned into a museum. The current exposition depicts what a typical apartment in Riga looked like at the beginning of the 20th century. The building has a spiral staircase with a painted ceiling. This Art Nouveau staircase is one of the most impressive, not only in Riga but in all of Europe.

Lunch in old town.

In the afternoon we will bring you to exciting excursion in The Black Heads House, built in the 1334 as the central meeting place for local merchants. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in Riga, with a unique legacy of the Black Heads brotherhood that was established here at the end of the 14th century, along with the existing merchants’ guild. As time passed the house began to host visits of foreign kings and other noble guests and continues to fulfill this task up to today – concerts, balls, gala dinners and diplomatic receptions are frequently organized here. During the tour you will get to know about historical cellars, historical cabinets, halls and composer’s gallery. As well as taste Latvian national drink – Riga Black Balsam.

You will explore Riga by boat on the city canal and the River Daugava (on the season). The ride will take you under 16 of the Old Town’s bridges, through the marvelous city parks and along Riga’s panorama on the largest river in Latvia, the Daugava. During the boat ride you will see the city from a whole new angle and perspective.

Dinner in restaurant with Latvian cuisine. Night in 4* hotel in Riga centre.

DAY 3: Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia and Motor Museum

First we will visit Riga Motor Museum – see the largest and most diverse collection of antique motor vehicles in the Baltics and listen to exciting stories about them.

Lunch in The Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia.

Our tour will continue by exploring The Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia. When entering the tiny Latvia of the former times that hides unobtrusively behind the pine forest at Lake Jugla, don’t strive to perceive it as a reality for it was a reality only to those from long ago. But the objects, structures, and households still continue to exist. You, a visitor and a stranger, will be rewarded with the intimacy of these treasures of our predecessors. This feeling, without any reminiscence of contemporary man, may be vague, imperfect or too subjective though nursed by many and winnowed by time.

Dinner in Riga old town. Night in 4* hotel in Riga centre.

DAY 4: Transfer from hotel to Riga International airport.
